Image DPI Converter

Adjust the dots-per-inch (DPI) setting of your images for print preparation or display purposes. DPI matters when you're printing documents, preparing images for professional printing, or ensuring compatibility across different output devices.

Understanding DPI and print quality

DPI measures how many dots the printer will render per inch. Typical screen display uses 72-96 DPI, while professional print requires 300 DPI for acceptable quality. This tool lets you adjust DPI for PNG and JPEG images using two distinct methods, each suited to different workflows.

Metadata-only conversion

This mode updates only the DPI tag embedded in the image file, leaving pixels untouched. Your image dimensions stay the same while the DPI value changes. Use this when you need to change how printers interpret your image without altering the actual pixel data. This approach is fast and preserves image quality perfectly.

Resample conversion

Resampling physically resizes your image to match the target DPI. If you're converting from 72 DPI to 300 DPI, the image becomes 4x larger (same content, more pixels). This maintains the physical size your image would print at while adjusting pixel dimensions accordingly.

Print workflow applications

Prepare digital images for professional printing, verify print-ready images meet resolution standards, convert web-resolution graphics to print-ready format, and ensure your photographs print at the correct physical dimensions.
