PNG to AVIF Converter
Replace heavy PNG files with compact AVIFs in a single click. AVIF keeps transparency and fine detail while shrinking file sizes dramatically — often 50–80% smaller than PNG.
Why AVIF for PNG content
PNG is lossless and great for screenshots, icons, and flat graphics, but it can be huge. AVIF supports both lossless and high-quality lossy modes and includes an alpha channel, so you get PNG-grade quality at a fraction of the size. Modern browsers, CDNs, and frameworks all understand AVIF.
How it works
This tool relies on the browser's built-in AVIF encoder. Each PNG is loaded into an <img> element, drawn onto a canvas, and re-encoded as AVIF locally. Nothing ever leaves your computer.
Transparency preserved
Both PNG and AVIF support an alpha channel, so transparent UI elements, icons, and product shots keep their transparent backgrounds intact in the AVIF output.
Quality slider
AVIF is dramatically more efficient than PNG for photographic content. Values between 60 and 80 work well for photos. For mostly flat graphics where sharpness matters, try 85–95 to avoid softness. Experiment — AVIF delivers big savings even at higher quality settings.
Batch conversion
Drop in a folder of PNG files and the tool processes them sequentially. Each converted AVIF gets its own download link along with a size-savings indicator, so you can instantly see the benefit.
Browser support
Encoding AVIF requires a modern browser. If your browser can't encode AVIF (for example, older Safari), a warning appears and the convert button is disabled. Decoding AVIF for viewing is now supported in every major browser.
